The Greek Islands and Greek beaches are some of the most wonderful places to visit in the world. We have been there many times with my family. I can remember as a small child every time we got on that airplane to go to all of our Greece vacations, I was always nervous because I had never been on an airplane before, (especially that very first time), let alone a different country and a different continent!
Greek food is perhaps the best food in the world. We also have some of the best beaches in the world. I believe that the Greek Islands and the Greek beaches stack up to any of the hundreds of islands and hundreds of beaches that are in the Caribbean Sea and the South Pacific.
All of these islands in Greece, in both the Aegean Sea and the Ionian Sea, are very unique for their warmth, their sun, and their light, to name just a few characteristics.
There is definitely a natural beauty about these islands and beaches that compares to no other place in the world.
Most of these Greek islands and Greek beaches are filled with white beaches and it is almost as if you can hear and smell the crystal clear blue sea calling out to you as well as just being able to see and touch it.
include some of the most cleanest beaches in the world. These beaches
are so clean that when you swim far out to sea from the beach, you can
actually see the bottom of the ocean floor from as high as twenty to
forty feet up, if not more.
Greece and the Mediterranean are very well known for its civilization, its culture, its ancient history, its philosophy, its language, its Greek food (which, by the way, is probably the healthiest food that you can eat in the world.
If you want to lose
weight, I strongly recommend eating this type of food. I should know -
both of my parents are of Greek descent and would always cook the food
that they grew up on - it is absolutely delicious!).
Greece and the Mediterranean are also very well known for its people because Greek people are perhaps the friendliest people in the world. In Greece, they use the same word for both stranger and friend, which is xenos, pronounced ksenos. (This same word is also used for "hospitality," "guest," and "host" as well as "friend" and "stranger").
friendly a group of people can be when both the word for "ritual friend"
and "enemy stranger" is the same. Such conflicting, opposing and
contradictory words to mean the same. You just can't beat that!
There are also the tiny villages, with their white painted walls and rooftops which can be seen from the ferry when arriving to these beautiful and exquisite islands. I'm just picturing this image as I am writing this. (Ahhhh! The memories!) Some villages are high up the mountain tops and cliffs, such as Santorini or laid across the beach for all visitors to see, such as Mykonos.
For those who want to experience Greece vacations, may we suggest visiting some of the beautiful Greek islands in both the Aegean Sea and the Ionian Sea. Some of these islands include, but are not limited to:
Santorini - Santorini is a volcanic island located in the southern Aegean Sea. (Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie just bought a multi million dollar summer home on this beautiful island. I believe that they paid roughly about 5.5 million Euro to live on this wonderful, superb, and lovely island, which is famous for its black sand beaches. A big hunk of change if I may say so!)
Mykonos - Probably the most cosmopolitan, international/multinational and sophisticated of all the Greek islands in the world.
Crete - Crete is so large it is broken up into four sections, Chania, Herakleio, Lasithi, and Rethymno.
Corfu - Located in the Ionian Sea, it is an island with natural beauty. As a result of its geographical location, it is one of the more developed islands in Greece.
Paros - The white houses in the Cycladic style are arranged along the sea-front. Paros is a very well known tourist attraction and would recommend it to anyone. Trust me! You will thank me for it!
Rhodes - Rhodes is the biggest of the Dodecanese island group (Dodecanese means twelve - there are actually more than twelve islands in this group but the group of 12 larger islands are always most talked about than the 150 smaller islands in this group). While growing up in The Bronx, I had a friend, a gorgeous Greek girl that was from this island, but I won't say her name. I had the biggest crush on her and never really told anyone until now. I've found out that she is married and has several children. I'm sure they're as beautiful as she was.
Ios - Might be the most beautiful of all the Greek islands in the Cyclades, with its narrow alleys, shops, bars, pubs and cafes/tavernas.
These are all just a few of the Greek islands that I will be talking about all throughout this site.
